The Originals Series pairs an author with a musician for an evening of conversation, musical performance, and, not least, drinks.

Hosted and produced by FSG Originals, GQ Magazine, and Flavorpill, and MCed by David Rees, the events usually take place at Studio-X, a cultural hub of loft space in an industrial building in lower Manhattan—and are always filled to capacity with a boisterous cross-section of young New Yorkers.

In 2012, participating authors included John Jeremiah Sullivan, Amelia Gray, Rosecrans Baldwin, and Frank Bill; musicians included Caveman, Hospitality, Eleanor Friedberger, and John Darnielle.

We hope you’ll join us at our next event, or at least enjoy the videos by Lopez Williams.

Some Previous Event Videos

John Jeremiah Sullivan + Caveman: Our first Originals Series event, just as Pulphead was being published. Topics covered include the untouchability of David Foster Wallace and the purity of Axl Rose’s devil-woman voice.

Rosecrans Baldwin + Eleanor Friedberger: Topics covered include the completely obnoxious American veneration of Paris, the complexities of cheek-kissing the French IT guy, and the bullshit of the double-tap bro hug.

Amelia Gray + Hospitality: The Originals Series goes Williamsburg! Topics covered include strange short fiction, the definition of “creepy,” and the possibility of multiple realities.
